The 2018 E. James Holland Symposium on American Values is proud to present Latina/o Representation in the Media, Civil Rights and American Values by Distinguished Speaker Sonia Manzano. The symposium will be held on September 25th, 2018. Please visit the Symposium web page for more information.

Sonia Manzano is a first-generation American of Latino descent who has affected the lives of millions of parents and children since the early 1970s, when she was offered an opportunity to play “Maria” on Sesame Street. In her keynote address, Manzano will discuss her career and highlight civil rights efforts to make media more representative of American culture. Additionally, she will emphasize the importance that media can make in promoting cultural pride and social tolerance.
